At La Maison Montessori House, our mission is to create a home away from home for each and every one of our students. We see our children as individuals and we afford them the respect, courtesy and love that they deserve.
LMMH is the area’s only private school that offers a complete French immersion program for students in grades 1 to 8, along with a Casa program for students ages 2.5 to 6. We believe that both English and French are essential to Canadian culture.
Better French Immersion
Unlike traditional French immersion schools, we make sure that children emerge from our French immersion program with the ability to write and speak French. Our students speak in French all day long, except during music, art and physical education classes. That means they speak French about 80 percent of the day. In a public school French immersion classroom, that number is more like five percent. Children spend much of the day listening to the teacher, which means they have limited opportunity to practice speaking French.
Children learn though repetition…and more repetition. Your child will emerge from our French immersion program able to write and converse in French.
I have 2 children that both attend La Maison Montessori House. They began attending as toddlers and progressed through the Casa program as well. When making decisions about the Elementary program for my older child, I decided to enroll my older child into a public school due to financial reasons. After 2 years, I decided to bring my older child back to La Maison and haven’t looked back since. My child loves going to school daily and loves learning in a Montessori environment. What more could you ask for? My younger child is still in the Casa program. I have seen leaps and bounds in terms of learning. Both of my children are avid readers and love to show off any or all newly learned skills! As a mom, I can only ever ask for my children to love the things they do daily. Since going to school is the most time consuming part of their day, I am delighted that both of my children are happy to go to school, are happy to learn and are happy to be care free with their friends. Well rounded, happy children is all I could ask for and I am pleased that La Maison has and continues to contribute well to this goal for my children.
If I could give it NO stars I would. We were mortified when our son moved into public French immersion and could not speak French! We ended up moving him to English school. His elementary teacher was terrible, and despite our best attempts to resolve the matter with adminstration, we got no where. The admin staff were quite arrogant, and quick to blame us and the child. An utter waste of money…. I do find the principal’s message funny, though. I can never remember the principal there in the morning to greet students. She usually rolls in well after school starts, and leaves well before school ends. Then she fills her school time jogging with her friends, golfing, swimming or running her hair salon! The fact that half the elementary class left in 2012, WITHOUT having finished the elementary program, speaks volumes… The school is a nightmare
